London Library Enquiries & Book Requests

Enquiry and reference services

Staff can undertake enquiries for members including bibliographic checking and subject searching utilising a range of printed and online resources. Where enquiries fall outside the scope of the collections, staff can identify appropriate libraries and collections for referral.

Advance book orders

Members may request that books be set aside in advance, or recalled if currently on loan. This can be done on Catalyst or by contacting the Library in person, by email (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.), by phone (020 7766 4743) or by letter.

Collecting books

Members may arrange for books ordered in advance to be collected by a courier or other individual on provision of written confirmation detailing all items to be borrowed. Those collecting books on behalf of a member will only have access to the Issue Hall.

Suggestions for purchase

The Library welcomes suggestions from members for both new and older titles that would be an appropriate addition to the collection. The Librarian reviews every title suggested. Around 95% of titles are approved. Foreign title suggestions are forwarded to the subject specialist librarian for consideration. Suggestions may be made either in person, by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., by phone (0207 766 4743) or by letter.
