London Library Periodicals
Since its foundation the Library has collected and bound academic journals as well as the publications of a remarkable range of learned societies both in the UK and abroad. Additionally a wide array of periodicals and magazines of cultural, social and political interest is taken including a significant number of county historical and field archaeological journals, many dating back to the mid-19th century. The number of current subscriptions is approaching 700 titles and we have extensive back runs for over 2,700 further titles, many of which began in the 18th century.
Current issues of journals are displayed in the Reading Room and remain there until superseded. Most journals are bound annually and then become available for loan. Not all periodicals and learned society publications follow this general pattern but staff can assist with queries relating to individual titles.
As well as print copies, the Library subscribes to over 300 online versions of its journals, augmented with access to thousands more through online periodicals archive services.
