Write & Shine: Jane Morris and the Arts & Crafts Movement (Online)

Public Events
Date: 14 July 2023 07:30 - 09:15

Start your day with a burst of creativity!

Join Write & Shine bright and early, live from The London Library for a 90-minute virtual writing workshop inspired by Jane Morris, celebrated artists’ model and embroiderer associated with the Arts & Crafts movement.

Jane Morris was a muse to both her husband William Morris and Dante Gabriel Rossetti, both Library members, and provided the inspiration for a number of pre-Raphaelite works (including Rossetti’s ‘Proserpine.’) She was also a renowned embroidery artist in her right. A voracious reader, she applied to join The London Library in 1885, seconded by fellow member and Arts & Crafts figure, Emery Walker.

This session on beauty and textiles, creative partnerships and collaborations is the third in a year-long series of morning writing workshops, led by author Gemma Seltzer, celebrating the friendships, societies and creative communities that found inspiration at The London Library. This workshop takes place in the early morning light - the best time to think, dream and imagine! You won’t be expected to share your writing, which offers great freedom and encourages all kinds of fascinating ideas to emerge.

Login at 7.30am for 7.45am start. You will be sent a Zoom link a few days before the workshop (if you do not receive it, please check your junk file or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).
