Under the Covers: Naomi Alderman (In person)

Ella Berthoud brings her illuminating Under the Covers series of talks back to The London Library, with the author of the international bestselling phenomenon The Power, Naomi Alderman.

Naomi Alderman's latest novel is The Future, a white-knuckle tour de force, in which a handful of friends plot a daring heist to save the world from the tech giants whose greed threatens life as we know it. Big tech, big money, big ideas and the possible end of civilisation, this is an exhilarating exploration of how power corrupts and what it takes to stand up to it, told with characteristic wit, wisdom, brilliance and fun.

Joining bibliotherapist Ella Berthoud on the metaphorical couch, Alderman discusses The Future, her incredibly varied output of novels, video games, radio and TV, and the books that have shaped and inspired her throughout her life, before being delivered her bibliotherapeutic analysis and prescription.

Naomi Alderman is the bestselling author of The Power, which won the Women’s Prize for Fiction, topped Barack Obama’s list of his favourite books from 2017, has been translated into more than 30 languages and was made into a television series for Amazon Prime. Her first novel, Disobedience was adapted into a feature film starring Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams. She has been mentored by Margaret Atwood via the Rolex Arts Initiative, is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and was named one of Granta’s Best British Novelists in 2013. As a video games designer, she was lead writer on the groundbreaking alternate reality game Perplex City, and is co-creator of the award-winning smartphone exercise adventure game Zombies, Run!, which has more than 10 million players.

Ella Berthoud is a bibliotherapist, artist and co-author of The Novel Cure: An A-Z of Literary Remedies. She has been prescribing literary cures to readers everywhere for many years.
